Hi everyone welcome back to how wenever seen this before this week we discussed the netfix original moxi join us as we discuss how we stand sethas an ally, how he wish Lucy was actually the main character of thismovie and how there is a lack of innersectionality. So this week we watch Moxi, which is anew movie that came out by Amy Polar. I think it came out two weeks ago kin abrand new yeah. It's based off of a pretty famous book, Amy Polar directedit, but the person who wrote the book is Jennifer Matthew. It's help. Funkyis spelled French yeah. Before we start talking about our movie,we were trying to decide like what game we wanted to play today. You maythink that this is a dehydrated sweet potato. Well, it is Great Atat a do really good. Do you want to do onemore there's start all over Hanna Montana Yeah Yeah? Please tell me you're not reading afterrecollided. No, I was just int. How I don't know Iwas like the a car just passers, a lot of like car crushes at my street corner.Oh Nice, yeah, like really positive, yeah swifper can swipfer be now a verb yesw for the floor. You can swiffersomething, but what you can't just do things that yousee in your room. I do not see a swifter in my room, okay, you can'tlook at dust and be like swiffer. Why not because listen I feel like that wasabseen. It's something we need. Something for. Cothis is about contenthere. Smush o much is okay. I don't want you to feel discouraged. Ijust want you to dig deep Iet, my brain okay. Now can we do Siver sure adjetive obscure now how about tonail clipper? Okay, youdefinitely see that. No, I don't adjective sexy okay...

...for bending in Ed. These are funnierlike the weirder and like the like, not dirtier, but like the more likebathroom talk. There is this Ba. This is funnier. Okay. Now I'm just thinkingof things in a bathroom. So, that's not what I mean. I know, that's not whatyou mean, but that's my head, goats. Should you sucked do that? One sucked you like say likewith the tea sucked yeah suck Di. I know I know like, but like I felllikeyou overemptety, you say it no noyou say it. No, I know I'd say the same way:Fise Fucke you, Sam with a I know. I it just sounded funny body part arm pay, hair good. Thank you. Wait instead of tonail clipper. Can wedo Timothy, shallmaze, tonail, clipper, yeah and that's all so we're just goingna gomad start all over Hanna Montana. It's likeplaying in my heads, I'm going to try not to sing it. I have to wonder if this Basalineis toobig to ride munch or not munch in such a crazy margerita. It's sooner than Ithought, but you collided me out. I've lost control and there's no egg plant, I'm gonna smush all over out of the swifter and into the swifteragain you make me want to forget and Smush all over here I come obscure outof my mind or w wait. I don't actually remember how the song goes or worse, another Timothy Shallowmays, Tona Clipper to get burned and smish allover I'm goin to smush allover, fantastic insexy, all a bike. Surpriseyou've got the warning hesitation sucked aside as it's it's sooner that it's soonerthan I want, but you caught my arm fit here. I guess I'm ready now to Smush, I'mgonna smush, all over yeah that was Ay more stressful than wethought. I guess so. We're going to to mome know, apologies that took so long. Maybe it long well see it won't take for youguys it will not take that forfor us. I guess before we start just a warningthat we will be talking about sexual assault because that does occur in thismovie and is sort of a reoccurring theme, but anywayinto the movie on that right. Okay, there are a couple things thatdon't make sense to me in this movie or I don't like, but there are a fewthings that I don't like. So it's, okay, this S, okay, I don't really get thispart. This run. The opening scene is the main character. Vivy an runningthrough the woods. Why, like I like? Okay, like I, don'tthink anything about it, but then there's like one flash to runningthrough the woods and then at the very end, she's running through wods, but Idon't see how it connects. Maybe I just like missed it. I understand whatthey're trying to do and it's probably a bigger deal in the book, but theirvisual storytelling here was a bit off in my opinion, because I get it likethey open with this girl running in the woods she tries to scream, but shecan't- which is, I guess, a metaphor for the main character of Vivian. Shefeels like helpless in a situation so by the end of the movie, it shows soshe's dreaming and then, by the end of the movie, it shows her being able toscream in that dream that rhymed, I don't it didn't. So I get that, but I think it wouldhave just been more effective because, after that it shows her working on herpersonal essay to Ouc Berkeley, and it's asking her like what causes shecares about. So I think it would have been more effective for them to havecut out the wood scene just open with her struggling to figure out what shewants to write about, mention it like halfway through the movie again andthen end with her having written that personal statement about everythingthat she learned in the movie, that was yeah e, more effective yeah. This it'sjust like, seemed very like I thought something is going to come from thisand then like nothing happened, so I thought that would definitely be moreeffective. I agree m yeah because it's just random at the beginning and thenrandom at the end, and I like get that...

...as supposed to be a metaphor, but itjust it just didn't fit. I will say, though, that this is the part thatarchie was intrigued by he liked the woods, so you got a thumbs up from athree monthold puppy, so great yeah, but yeah, so that's kind of like thewhole beginning of the movie. Actually, it's Bibion's first day of eleventhgrade all these people look super old to be in high school, just going to sayit. They're, probably thirty year olds, actually thiydi looks like she could bein high school. Really I thought she looked kind of old.She looks exactly like this girl that I knew F, O, like my freshman year ofcollege, except like a little younger and so like. I feel like she looks like like the age range. I guess it's like subjective, but so wekind of like hear that there's this ranking system going around the schoolranking girls- I don't know if there's boys on the list as well n right kindof like who's it'like, who is the Best Chek? I don't remember, t exactly whatthey all were, but like best chest, there's like most Bangabole the waythet said best chess right. I know I know I forget the the other ones it's likethe biggest, but but it's like a list of all the girlssobedient that wasot there but yeah. So there's this underlying, like kind offear of like where you're going to be on this, this ranking list and whatyou're going to get we kind of meet a bunch of charactersat the beginning. So we have vavy in the main character. Her best friend isClaudia one of Vivian's. Friends name is Seth Swayler. She has a crush on himand then there's also Tessa. Oh No, I'm sorry Emma played by Josepy Langford, who wasTessa in after and Lucy who was a new girl. I think they're kind of tha main characters yeah, but at the beginningit's important to note that Vivian doesn't really have any friends besidesClaudia and they have this whole, like their whole feature, is plannedtogether, which something that bothers me. So much is boll new that I wasgoing to bring this up, but inkn. All of these, like teenage, coming up age movie set in California. It's always the same thing. It startsoff with this girl who doesn't know what her personal essay is going to beshe's applying to ouce Berkeley specifically spend college with their best friend orboyfriend and the movies about their struggle, and they at the end they always find something to write their personal essayabout yeah. That happened in to all the boys.I've loved before it happened in Lat's. WHAT ORT book smart, Happene,Lady Birn, I think it was yeah Ladybird to lady bird. What's the really badthekissing booth and like one like, what can you just pick another school? There are more colleges than you see. Berkeley people come o like. Do youthink that you see Berkeley like they like pay and be Doyou? Think theypay for it? I mean like it's can't, be they can'tjust like all be like. Oh Yeah, you see Berkeley, that's the one to go. To likeI mean yeah, it's a good school, but there's lots of other good schools inCalifornia, yeah and there's other other states thther Sotit' jusyeah. So we an oh, Iforgot about one person. andthat one person is Michel, the annoying white guy. You can likekind of clearly see from the beginning, he's just garbage and if you don't rewatch the movie, please, if you don'te problem yeah, so we're in English class andthey're talking about the only book eleventh grade Englishever reads the Great Gatsby. We didn't read that Anio. I didn't read it eitherbut, like I know, everyone else has read that book. I'm pretty sure we readton and, like my class at least read that in ninth grade I never read it,but I know everyone else did you've, read it like on your own right. No, Inever R fr. I need to read it. Why? Because it'sit's important to history. Why have you seen the movie yeah? I think I went on school trip to see it.I feel like it's important to understanding the wis. Why do you read any book? I have not read a book in years. Thisis why you're bad at Mat.

You know like you've ever like you justget like burn out from having to constantly read for class. That's whyyou don't read for class and then you read for pleasure only except I have to read fing I had toread for Classi literally never did and I did well in school. I have a book report DU next week, so I have you have book reports in College.I have this is like my third one. WHAT DO YOU OT? Why car a fo? It's onlya book report. It's like a Idon'teveview, don't n same thing. That's the same thing yeah. You should just spark noins, I don't think hes por anyway ofmoving on we don't endorsecheating in school, yeah n! No, do your work do your reading, but don't be ifyou actually took the time to do every reading. Okay, I don't do like I scim, like you, learn how to Skim. I've seen someone break down the calculations. Ifyou were to do every single reading that you're assigning college, therewould literally not be enough hours in the day for you to ever sleep, youphysically cannot do it yeah every for my one class, every clike I clost twotimes a week, it's thirty pages like that's them like minimum and then she'slike. Oh, it's going to be along one this week and then it's like sixtypages. That's isn't that the point of youbeing the teacher here you're supposed to teach instead of having yourstudents read it's a lot. This is moving on anyway, so we're in this class Englishclass, and we kind of see that everyone likes Mitchell, even though he he's kind of awful he's like he's.Actually awful and like the teachers are like Hey, that's Mitchel, like thethe principal, doesn't care about anything that he does because he's justlike a big, my booster forther school. It like he'slike he's a guy, the face of the school yeah and after class like an enjuring classMitchel like bullies, Lucy for for speaking up and we later see them in the lunch roomcapteria. I guess, and he like tries to flirt like sort of flirt with Lucy andlike touch her and she's. Like don't touch me like what are you doing andthen he slams his hand on a like bending machine. He's like I wasjust getting the dram and then he spits in it and gives it to her then aregross and yeah. It's awful and what's worse, I'd say is that she goes to thePrincipalis like he is harassing me and the Princias like. No, no, no, no he'sbothering you he's not harassing you. He just bothering you, if you usebother, I don't have to do anything about it. She just dismisses the wholething and like basically just like redirectorns like Oh, you know what Isee hear you like music, I'm goingto sign you up for marching men Ando, you kwsame exact thing happen tome in elementary school. This boy was taking on me and I went to like theteacher about it and instead of making him have consequences for his actions, they sent us to pure mediation, basically meaning that both parties didsomething wrong. where I was literally just minding my own business, and thisboy came up to me and started like bothering me or harassing me. Actuallysorry, I didn't mean to Ese the word Boller and they were like they were like. Can you agree to stopbothering her and everything will be fine and he's like yeah, and then itdid nothing literally. The exact same situation happened before my very owneyes to me. It's like when people say like boys will be boys and no like that's not excusable. I meangirls shouldn't act that way either to anyone else. So, like wh t like, whycan't you just teach teach anyone to be respectful. You know, because if you'resaying boys will be boys when it comes to stuff like that, then it creates this kind of mentalitythat men don't really have to have consequences for their actions asadults, you started off young. Obviously it's going to be a thing whentheyre adults to so you have like men, doing awful things to women andgetting away with it, because boys will be boys yeah anyway. Okay, so up next school is now over andViviann is being really mean to her mom. Her mom is played by anmy pullar. Idon't think we talked about. I don't...

...think e did Amy polars acting in this movie is I hate to say it atrocious. I just I don't know why I just can't get onboard with it. What do you do you think? It's good? Idon't think it's like awful. I don't know it just like kind of feels likeit's just her sthat make Ma. I think it was like her, but with less personalityyeah I feel like. I would have liked to learn more about her character like she seems like shewas like super cool yeah and in this they make her seem like kind of onedimensional yeah, okay, but yeah. So her mom is she's,being man to her mom and they're at the grocery store and her mom's, a singlemom, Vivian Stat doesn't really want anything to do with them. H'. He married someone elsealready he's like moved on, which is awful, but this man comes up toVivian's mom and starts flirting with her theyre like work, buddies eventslike that man was flitering with you and it was awkward, it's the guy. It'slike agent Colsen. I think this his name in marvel. Oh okay, I don't really I'm not familiar with his work, but okay, so yeah next she's trying to write herpersonal statement, but she cannot figure out a cause that she cares aboutso at school. The next day, Vivian Finds Lucy in the Hallway and tells herto keep her head down and just don't let Mitch Bother her and, of course,Lucy's like there's no way. I'm doing that, I'm not going to keep my headdown and just let this kid bother me. I'M gonna speak out, which is good forher later that night Vivian finds out that her mom spent her time as a teamcrushing the Patriarchy and a revel like feminist group. She even had herown like femniszene, and she really liked the band Bikini kill, which isreally good band, and I think, like this moment kind of like I wrote itlike radicalized her, so they go go to a peperalley the NOC next day an shereally starts to notice all the problematic things that the boys aredoing, the fact that they can come in and take their shirts off. Theyactually go up and like hit the girls on their butts and there's norepercussions for any of their actions, and it's just like really upsets her.An apthis pepper ally. The ranking list comes out and the list comes out andall everyone checks it like. It's like the pepperally doesn't even matteranymore, everyone's checking their phones to look at the lifts. We see oneof the one girl she, the girl who's like got the best the best chest. Shelike zips up her jacket immediately and there's a new like ranking on the list. It's not like a ranking list, it's more like awful superlatives. I guess youcoul say sexist superlative, yeah, so maybeind gets most obedient and then Emma the Tessa d SA eahshe gets most bangable and thenthe newest one on the list. It's the biggest say it seword yeah thebiggest seaword, and that goes to Lucy, because because she turned him down andshe like cut him off in class and whatever Lucy as soon as she sees it,takes to the principle and the principal completely dismisses it she'slike. Oh No. I don't understand that. I don't understand social mean she's likeno like do you see this, and this has been going around the school every year.So it's not like it's Sheffiley new ses. She had to have known about it, andthis like this is her moment her Viv moment yeah. So she storms out of thePEP perally, goes home and makes her own zene and calls it Maxi, and shemakes fifty copies of it and puts it in like sneaks into school the nextmorning and puts it in the girls bathroom and she went as soon as shelike gets in there to distribute the magazine. She runs Ito the stallbecause there's other girls that come into the bathroom and they see it onthe counter they like. Oh my gosh. This is like really cool, like standing upfor all the girls who have been harassed by Mitchell, and it makes herfeer really good because she didn't know if other people would feel thesame way that she was. We see that Mitchell somehow got a copy and he'ssaying that he's harassing Lucy again saying that she wrote it well. He tookher copey. Oh okay, well Mitchell took your copy and he harasses Lucy because, like a like saying that she wrote it because on the lest is like are on theZizine. Is like worst guys, I don't know exactly what it says, but likewerst guys at Ros at rockport. I think it's rockport and, like he's number onehe's like. Oh, you wrote this because you hate me and whatever I personallythink that I would have punched him at that very moment...

...he was being so rude like. I would havepunched him yeah. What's like. I. I think I at this point. We also that Claudia just like Vidians best friend, we have IMA her too much, but she just doesn't get it not like, doesn't get it but doesn't isn'tradicalized in the same way that Bibion is and it kind of disappoints. Bibian.' Like not see her getting is, I guess, angry about. What's going on, they're,both introverts but CLOTDIS, much more so I'd say that Cladia isn't asoutspoken and she has a lot of internalized massageny. But sheexplains why later yeah, yeah and Cuadiad like there's this thing, thatBabyan wrote in the the Zene and says like tomorrow, put: Is it hearts andstars or like Y, this hars and start hearts and stars on your hand, to showyour support? That's what caty is like. I don't like want to do that. That'skind of the first moment that Tebeans, like Oh that's, kind of like. Why won'tyou do that? No one knows it's Vibian, I've Goup to say that like no one knowswho created Moxi yeah so the next day people were kind of supposed to draw intheir hands and support of the women at the school. But when Viviam firstarrived, no one that she's seen so far has done it. So she goes into thebathroom to wash it off until she sees the soccer team, who is kind of you'veseen in scenes before them, getting angry at the fact that male athletesget so much more attention than women's sports, which is a real thing. Thathappens obvious everywhere, and so she seesthat the soccer team had drawings on their hands and then a bunch of othergirls have them too, and then she also sees that set the Skaterboy who she hasa crush on. He draw on his hands. Yes, King, we love a supportive boy, we lovean ally. He also during class invites her to a party and during this classthe principal comes in, and this girl gets a dress coded for having big, boobs and Hase to go home, and so she was wearing a Tang top and the girl next to her was alsowearing a tank top. But because her boobs were bigger, she apparently wasbeing more sexualized and quote unquote distracting to the boys, which is areal thing that happens at schools, but that that, like that kind of made mehappy to have gone to the high school that we went to because I feel like itwas kind of the opposite, like we were given way more freedom than the boyswere in a sense like I would always jhoke toschool, with, like really short skirts on likedresses, and the boys would always have to wear like Polos or like Blazers, with a tie on Mondays, and you know like we could get away withmore and they weren't even allowed to have their hair long yeah. I I think, like our case, like it's very different than a public school, where they technically have more freedom with whatthey weare, although now they like literally wear whatever they want. There's no blazers ever it's so weird, and I'm like like it's, not fair, wow W, listen, I think, O having auniform kind of like helped me get my life together because then you didn'thave to like. We were always seen wearing like thesame things and like there's ever like a horrible fashiontrend that we've participated in at school, yeah, hit's, true but yeah. I was just like looking at this and kind of thankfulthat, like we went to a high school, where, like the boys, had a stricter dress codethan the girls, there is there's one thing I'll say about that, though, given my body type, a skirt that I would wear, I would I have- and I waslike told that that that was too short ortoo tight when someone else wore something even shorter and even tighterand they weren't called out because their body is different than mine. Theytold you that your skirt was too short, but where, in the role book, did itever say that we had a limit for our skirts? That's arbitrary, that's so annoying! Ididn't know that happened yeah. I remember I was walking to the gym, that's so annoying! Oh I'M! Sorry! No! It's like great. I don't care untellike it like, but it happened and I think that's just because I'm I lookdifferent. Why am I getting called out n and someone else is doing the exactsame thing? If not quote unquote, worse, you know yeah. I also remember like wearing black jeans every dayinstead of like Khaki's, and I was only ever like called out once for it when, like my math teacher was like you like, arenever in dress code. Do you realize that, like those are Jeanes, I was likehave no idea what you're talking about...

...and then she never brought it up again. It's like it's like hard to find Kaki so and Kaki's that look good right. Youwi, like we had to wear calki its so embarrassed anyway, anyway, anyway, so they're atthe party later that day after this girl gets literally taken out of schoolbecause she as wearning to Tanke op there's one thing I didn't write down, but I noticed it Mitchell's playing like beer, prong or something with thetwo girls from the soccer team who who happened to be black and he's like? No,I don't want you to play anymore and two white girls come up. I don't knowif they meant anything by that, but it made me think I don't know if youcaught that, but it like happened in the background. It was like really hard.I didn't, I didn't catch great right away. I thought that like they werewinning and then he got mad. So I don't know I don't know but anyway, so atthis party, these two soccer girls actually catch up with podia and Vivianand they're like come here like we want to talk to you. So they come into thisroom where Lucy is and the girl who got dress coded another go named Cj andthen I think there's someone else, but I can't remember the other person, butthey kind of call it their first official MOXI meeting so they're alltalking about like what are they going to do like do? We know who moxy is andtrying just to like figure things out, and you can see that quatity is likevisibly kind of uncomfortable by by the whole situation, and you don't know whyand later that night we see Bivian, making the next volume of Maxi and kindof the same process getting the copies going to school early, but she actuallyruns into Sefh fare and he is now the only person who knows that she is theperson who made Moxi and he's, like you know, like he's gray ally, they love SaYeah set is of us, but he's, like you know, give me some upput them in theboys. Bathroom. I'm sure like there are people that hate Mitchell as much asall the girls do. They want to help you, so he does and what they're supposed todo this time, like the I guess called action or whatever is that they're all supposed to wear tanktops the next day to support. I don't know what her name is: I've never gotanther names theyeah. The girl who got dress codedthit is yeah. I Gir I just Couldt Avanti Pore again, we see quatia being superhesitant kind of because of that Vivan Gos shrifting with Lucy. They getcloser and Claudi kind of sees that she's kind of not losing her best froombut like she's becoming more yeah seating, some popularity yeah a Y, butshe tries to support her by wearing a tank top. Then I could say, but her mom, basically just yells at her for wearing it and she has to change listen. Thisis a lesson to anyone who is a young woman who may have parents who don't want them todress a certain way. If you want a tip you just wear you either pack it inyour bag and change in the bathroom before school starts or you just wearlike a a sweatshert or a jacket over it, and then they'll never know yeah, but we see that all the othergirls at school are wearing tank tops d and the boys are wearing them as well, and this is kind of like their first real fight. I guess because Vivan it's likelike why? Wouldn't you wear that like? Why aren't you supporting Moxi, and shealso like finds out that she didn't catch her up on like what was going onwith Seth and how like she really likes him and everything, and so that same day, they're in home, room,sh, English again and the teacher who is he he's so familiar? He we have tolook this on. Let's see, let's see Mr Davys, his nameis like Barron Holtz, none of these HEWS in Vampire Sulk. No, that's Tefohweas an neighbors. Oh, he was a neighbors who do you playn? He was in the Legomovie too the disaster artist. Oh, he wasn'nsuicide, Squadi, the angry birds movie cool her okay, so yeah. So the English teacherlooks familiar because he's in a lot of stuff that we've seen but- and he isasked to comment on the the shirt situation and he says that he's stayingout of it, because it is a woman's issue and he's starting to fumble a bitbecause then, like someone, starts, recording him and he's just basicallylike saying this: Blanket Diversity statement, a all schools, all publicschools, probably traine their teachers to say...

...and so he's like I gotta go. I got togo and I just walks out just so unprofessional like who, what is he doing in theschool yeah? So it's now the football game and Mitchell like wins a scholarshipbecause he's uncontested. It's basically this scholarship to whateverschool you want and it's it's usually a football player, and so Mitchell likewant it. But then all the girls are like no like. We have a nomination and it'sKiara the captain of the girls socker team, and so they all the girls standup there like. I nominate her iy second that yeah. So it's it's now, Keraagainst Mitch and Klaudia is sitting there while Vivian like speaks up, andit's like a I fucking that clanya fields left out and she leaves because she's like jealous andalso sad yeah. So after so they fight about like why she won't. I guess likestand up and life didnt nominate and nothing really gets resolved at thatpoint. But then steff comes up and is like hey.Do you want to go for like a drive with me and they go to a funeral home andthey like pick out coffins and then they lay in a casket and listen tomusic like it's very weird, but like they kind of make a cute, I don't know,I don't know how ID feel about it. I can't say I would be. I could be seduced in a funeral home. Ican't say I could be yeah yeah, probably not as they're going home oras he takes her home and he doesn't kiss her in the car or in a casketbefore. But then he like he's like oh my gosh.I just like ruin the and runs out before he gets in the door and thenthey thay casens cte, but then so the next day, they're having another Moximeeting and wow. This is like in the locker room orsomething and Emma atessa is standing kind of around thecorner. While this is going on and she is like. Oh No, I'm just like grabbingmy uniform, but like she's. Clearly listening after that, we kind of see it's. I wrote it as likekind of big feminist moments for everyone. We see CJ, who is atranswiman audition for the musical when she previously was. I wasn't sureif it was like she just felt she wouldn't be accepted or they weren'tletting her yeah. I think they weren't letting her and they were also usingher dead name. Oh okay, okay, wowl! I didn't that's the only one I wrote down, but there were other things thathappened. Then it kind of all comes to a climax, so rgening of comes to climaxwhen Kadia comes up as kind of as like a waving. The white flag, like I like anapology, sort of I'd, say she says I registered Moxy as a club with theschool because you wouldn't be able to do all the things you're doing itunless you'd be kicked out. If you weren't, registered as a club andSheshe joins basically and tells maby in that she's, nowhere near asoutspoken as she is, and she she wants to be part of this, but in her way andthen that's going to be a lot more subtle or so she thinks yeah, okay. So next the MOXI girls decide tohave this party and this Middle School Girlban is performing and therehonestly everything that we wish that we really wariht. I said this isexactly what we wewere trying to be, and we weren't those girls are so talented and thenlike. We are like in our girlband in high school, like Yke Sing Yeah. So you know they're just killingthe game here and we will never be like them, but that's!Okay, so now at school Mitchell speaks on morning, announcements and says thatMOXSA is targeting him, which is just funny coming from him, because he targets all of the girls at school. So love that for him an ITsucks, because Kare didn't get the opportunity to do do the same thinglike she didn't get the opportunity to like speak during her campaign in frontof the whole school like Mitchell. Did next set is meeting Vivian's mom ashe's being something to him like in the classic, like stereotypical, like Momin Movie Way, you know cause like Oh, like I seeyou got me ice creamthat my daughter bought obviously, and it's just not very accepting of theirrelationship, but that's what parents do. I feel likeshe's accepting she's,just like messing with him to be she's just trying to embarrass him, humblehim. You know yeah. She like also says, like Oh weren't, you the kid that pet,his pants at the at the museum in First Gread. You know men deserve to be humbled so yeah. Ifthere's anything that they...

...they don't lack, it's the audacity. So yes, so seten Vive then go to the football gamethey make out in the car first and it's steamy like literally literally so, andthen they go to the football game. Sadly caraloss the competition hen shegoes home like she's drunk because she like got really mad about everythingthat happened again, creates a new moxeasing and also makes stickers thatsay: Yeah, okay, the sicker say you're an asshole and she actually is Takn into the principal's office she's like who, who is this like GMAAE? She deniesit she's, like I don't know, but instead Claudia gets suspended for Moxy, because she goes and covers for Bivian and says that it was her that startedit. So she suspended she. Actually, she vivin finds out from Lucy Lucy sayslike Oh. She took en for the team, isn't it great and Temis just madbecause, like no like she's, my best friend like I wouldn't want this tohappen to her, like she doesn't say, oh she's, covering for me, but ave, eensinuated. I guess at all like getting suspended as a huge sdeal for Claudia, because her parents will find out, like we'll, explain it a bit, but herparents are super strict yeah. So she does Babyan goes right to Cladias House. This kind of wherey findout like how how big of a deal it is for her and why she hasn't been like, wouldn't stepping up. I guess because her her parents are immigrants andthey've worked really hard for her to even be able to go to school and go toa be able to apply and go to a really good college, and she just can't riskthat, and she just doesn't understand, because Vibian is white and because shedoesn't have to worry about. I guess the racial implications of her actions. She calls her coward for not stepping up when it was finally time to likereally step up, which is now, and I feel like that makes her spiral M, andthis is the part of the movie that I had like a huge problem with they bringup these instances where, like that, like every woman could relate to withlike little to like no nuance, and I think that the fact that they also like have thismovie through the eyes of a sist white woman. It's like what does that. Whatdoes that do to like? Further the conversation, that's exactly ts what Iwrote at the end of the movie like that was like my big problem like. Why doesit have to be started by a a white girl? I don't know I feel likethey're like Oh, if it's a if it's a black girl, then they'll bethis angry black woman trope and I think a black woman should be the theleader of this movement like Lucy, should be the leader she's she's,incredibly strong, like it s like. Why does it have to be a blond bond, hair, blue eyed, white girl? You know yeah and the fact that the only characterthat really develops in this is like think about Claudia is a staticcharacter. She has this one aspect of her personality. That's her wholecharacter. Lucy. has this one aspect of her personality, her strength, that isher whole character and then the only person that grows and changesthroughout it is Vivian, and so it's like. I wish that this movie were throughLucy's perspective, because then it would show her being vulnerable like itwould show that, like black women, don't have to be played this strongcharacter all the time, and it's just funny to me because sh she plays thisreally strong character like a secondary character with with nodevelopment. But then you still have white savior Vivian yeah, like everything with this movie. Doesthen it's just like a white save ior, complex and you're like Wewl, okay, never mine, yeah, like what do you like? What do they think that they're doingto like further the conversation here and the fact that this wholeconversation with Claudia is through Vivian's perspective? That's not like helping that much it'sgreat, seeing like what Claudy is going through and Howt, like her experience, can relate to like so many women in the US with like immigrant parents, but the fact that we're learning about itthrough Vivian's perspective is like yeah and Vivians, like I feel likeshe's, incredibly defensive about it as well yeah, instead of her being like, Ididn't see that before, like I'm, so sorry like she was just she just stormed off andlike threw a hissy fit yeah she's like no one's helping me like literally youhave the entire school behind you yeah Yuwhat. Are you doing? You are theleader of an anonymous group and, and someone else took the fall for youYeahoh, my Gosh, that's and she...

...couldn't even be honest with Claudia. Iknow what Vivy is the worst yeah at this point. I just like I'm I've done with you starting a Vivianhate page. So once syou like really spirals everyone's, like mad at her she's Matat the world, no one's talking, she's, not talking this sess she's, not reallytarking to Claudia she's, not talking to anyone involved with Makhine, it'skind of come to a plateau. That's ORT, I'm looking for that's a good word is pannding our rocabulary each atevery episode, yeah, but so stuth doesn't want to talk to her. Soshe goes to the bathroom and there's just miraculously a note from someonelike. I don't know how she got it like. Of course. I don't know anyway, but thenote says it's an ononous now from a girl saying that they, the previousyear they were raped and they didn't go to the police because they didn't know or t or anyone, because they didn'tthink they would be believed and they didn't know how to handle it. This iskind of another radicalization moment. I think for her. It's kind of like herPeik of the most that she will do she on the front steps of the school thatnight she paints. So the school's name is rock port. I'm like ninety ninepercent short, but she puts rape port on the front steps and also makes a newepisode or episode a new volume. I guess of Moxi that says we are going towalk out in the middle of whatever class period tomorrow in support thatthat day in English class, the teachers like if you walk out you, you can beexpelled like this is serious, but he shows on his hands. He has the starsand the hearts. You know we have herding them we have to. We have tostand a king, that's willing to learn yeah. You know he made some mistakes inthe past, but he's learning at this walkout pretty much like almostthe whole schools out there. All the girls at least are thereare. Some guysand Vivian stands upon a ledge and admits that she is the leader of Moiand she's, the one who started it and that if anyone should get expelled, itshould be her and then everyone else pulls a radio rebel and it's like I'm Moxi, I'm Mossy, butinstead of saying, like I'm radio rebel, they just admit what they did to getexpelled, which you know can't say, is very a new idea. We can't say it's anew idea: Debbie Ryan walked so that Vivian could run yeah. So then Emma stand up on theLedge and says that she was the one who wrote the note and tells a story abouthow she was assaulted, and then God voted the most Bangable, which is just so awful by Mitchell yeahby Mitchell. Sorry, I forgot to mention that, and while all of this is goingdown, the principal who is not an Alli is watching, but then she decides topull Mitchell out of class and we don't really know the consequences. Yeahsomething tells me there will be none yeah, then Claudia comes running intoframe, says a Tivian's mom drove her. There, the vans, mom is really proudand everything seems okay, sh she made up with seth. It ends with a montage ofthem partying, instead of ending it with her finishing her personal essayyeah like why a' that, like again like why I ave that in and then never doanything with it yeah if you're going to make yousee Berkeley part of youryour experience in high school like why not thet would just be. That would makea full circle I just yeah, but that's it and then Tan. Yes, theParty looks rearly fun, though yeah with the end yeah. You know the party did look fun except we haveto cancel them because we're in a Pandora but yeah. So, like my thing with the like, I really liked it except then Iwas like well. This is just like a white savior con blug movie. I feellike it presented it in a way that was very like like they only explainsituations where it's very clear. What to do like? What's right and what'swrong, they don't really delve deeper yeah. It's like it's a start, butthere's so much more. They could have done. I feel like this is like a good.I think it could be a good introduction to feminism like kind of movie. Itcouldn't be. It's like it's like you're standing on a street corner at acollege campus and you're handing out...

...brochores about fam feminism yeah, it'slike a start. It's not doing everything or Nogh it its like giving me every, but it's getting there. Also it's making it's all putting it into this.Like really neat present, and it's like everything, has an answerand everything has a solution: Yeah Hen. The solution is like very much whiteperspective and a lot of the time. There's it's not Lik perspective and there's alot more great area that you have to m yeah through. I guess yeah. So inconclusion, stand Lucy. Yes, we love Lucy, I love Lucy, but I don't know I feel like this movieis important to talk about this week, because, of course, it's women'shistory month, but also at the same time, we just like we've, been seeingsome devastating things in the news that it's bringing a lot of issues thatare already around tolight about how ninety percent of women in he ninetyseven percent of women in the UK, are sexually harassed and or assaulted, andthe hate crime that just happened in Georgia, um so yeah. I don't knowmovies like this- are, I guess important, but men are not watchingthis movie Yep and this movie is very much likekidder to white sis women. I think my final statement would bethat, while this movie Bro brought upfeminism, I think it's doing to bring up. It dida little bit, but it' didn't bring up intersectional faminism in a way that Ithink it could have. I think they touched on it with Quadia and a a bit with Lucy Tbat. I think theycould. They could have done a lot more and I thinkthat start with getting Lucy her own movie and giving the whole thing againfrom her perspective, I would a hundred percent watch that and even like cj, itfeels like they were just ticking off boxes. Yeah didn't go anper also. Idon't even think they. Maybe they gave her name, but they definitely didn'tsay enough, but the the one girl in marching ban who was in a wheelchairshe they would always put her in the back, but that's like kind of all theythey did about that. We see like the thing is to I satwy see right throughit yeah like anyone watching that she's right through it. Archy sees rightthrough it. Harchi says down with the patriarchy, but this has been fun. Well,I hasn't been filled. I think it's been interesting. It's been interesting. If you enjoy US feel free to follows onsocial media, our instagram is how we never podcast rigt.
